Halotherapy Frequency for the Best Results

How Often Should I Do Halotherapy?

Halotherapy is a treatment where you breathe in salty air to treat respiratory conditions. These conditions consist of asthma, allergies, or chronic bronchitis. There are other conditions which can be treated through optimal halotherapy frequency, including:

  • Skin conditions, such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis
  • Smoking-related illnesses such as wheezing, shortness of breath, and cough
  • Depression and anxiety

How often you should use halotherapy depends on the condition you are treating. To receive the most from your visits, it is recommended you visit until you notice your congestion or symptoms have cleared. How often you should schedule your halotherapy sessions will vary from person to person, but the main factor to consider is to continue treatments until you notice an improvement.

Benefits of Dry Method Halotherapy

Halotherapy, as a dry method, consists of going into a human-made salt cave. There is no humidity in this cave, and the temperature is maintained at around 68 degrees Fahrenheit or less to keep the cave cool. The airflow, humidity, and temperature inside the salt cave are controlled in active and passive salt chambers. Each session inside the salt cave lasts approximately thirty to forty-five minutes.

Inside the salt cave, a device called a halogenerator will grind the salt into microscopic particles and release them into the air. As you inhale these particles, they will absorb irritants, including toxins and allergens, from your respiratory system. This absorption process accelerates mucus’s movement, so your body can rid itself of the foreign substance and allergens. It will also reduce any inflammation present to clear your airways.

If you are exposed to allergens, it can cause your immune system to inflame your skin or sinus passages. Halotherapy can absorb the edema from your swollen mucous linings in your sinuses and respiratory tract to enhance the drainage and expulsion of those contaminants. Research shows halotherapy can reduce inflammatory symptoms and pulmonary disease, including acute bronchitis, bronchiectasis, chronic bronchitis, and pneumonia.

The salt particles sent into the air from the halogenerator will also land on your skin. The particles landing on your skin will absorb bacteria and other impurities that are responsible for skin conditions. Skin conditions which can be treated through halotherapy include:

  • Aging skin
  • Acne
  • Rosacea
  • Atopic dermatitis
  • Psoriasis
  • Eczema
  • Onychomycosis

Another benefit of the salt cave is the negative ions produced in the salt particles. These ions will cause your body to release serotonin, which is responsible for your moods. Serotonin is one of the chemicals behind your feelings of happiness. For this reason, salt caves are said to help one with feelings of depression or anxiety.

Preventive Benefits from Halotherapy Frequency

Studies are showing halotherapy is an effective preventative treatment for kids in educational institutions. Proactive courses for chronically ill children have cut the risk of symptoms recurring. Tobacco smokers or others with external risk factors also benefit from halotherapy and its ability to reinforce the respiratory system.

Halotherapy Frequency?

Each experience with halotherapy is unique to the individual. There are some guidelines on how often to schedule halotherapy treatments based on the condition you are treating. These are some of those guidelines:

  • Dermatological ConditionsDermatological conditions such as psoriasis, acne, aging skin, or other skin-related issues, you should schedule halotherapy treatments twelve to twenty-five times during a four to eight week time period
  • Chronic RespiratoryIf you suffer from chronic respiratory conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, or other respiratory-related illness, you should schedule twelve to twenty-five sessions within a four to eight-week time frame
  • Mild Conditions- If you have mild conditions, such as an ear infection, flu symptoms, or a cold, you should schedule three to eight sessions during a one-to-two week time period

Your symptoms and severity of those symptoms will determine the best amount of time you should schedule halotherapy.  Our mission at Salt room Wesley Chapel is to help you breathe better and relieve your symptoms.
